The dealership shaved the rotors on my truck…twice…

Question: What's the perk to shaving vs replacing? I know price but how far will shaving the rotors really get you? It just seemed like a waste of money to me, I'd rather replace.

175 at my dealer to turn all four rotors and two new brake pads up front on my 2wd.

Everyone is mentioning the Hawk brake pads, are they supposed to reduce brake dust? I have an 06 XLT 4x4, the pads are still good, but you really have to stand on it to get it to stop and they throw off a lot of dust. I'm assuming they're cheapo pads/rotors whatever the guy before me owned, anyone ever go with EBC brakes? do they throw off a lot of dust? any better stopping power? would drilled and slotted rotors help with reducing dust?

I went with EBC slotted rotors and HAWK Ceramic pads...great combo IMO...little to no brake dust and very good stopping power. Placeofbrakes had a sale and got it all for around $300 to the door.

My Hawk pads reduced brake dust about 200% over the OEM pads and they stop much better as well. All brakes will out out dust, some more or less than others.

Thats a good deal man. I was thinking of going with EBC cause I've heard good things about them but they're expensive compared to Hawk (which I've never heard of til now) If I can go that route for around $300 I'll do that

I know a few guys who have had the ebc red stuff break pads and a couple crumbled after a few months.

I have hawk pads and d/s r1 rotors and am very happy with the combo.
