Default Rotors on 2005 F150 4x4

Ok,
So I took my F150 into the dealership, as I had vibrations coming from through my steering wheel while braking at speed.
They told me that all four rotors needed to be turned, and that they were going to charge $550 - I told them to go to hell.
I spoke to someone at Firestone - told them make/model etc, and he quoted $140 to turn the four rotors. Spoke to a second guy at the same shop, and he said as it was 4x4, the bearings would need to be repacked, etc, and said it would be $380.
So, do '05 XLT 4x4's (6 lug) have slip off rotors or not? If so, would I be better off replacing the rotors rather than turning them?
Any help appriciated!

According to my "Haynes" manual, 4x4 has slip off rotors front and rear. 2WD does not in the front.

wow, you got a bunch of hacks quoting your work, the 4x4's have slip on rotors. I just payed under $400 for all for NEW rotors with Hawk LTS pads all around on my 05, I would never pay anyone $300-$500 for turned rotors and cheapo no name pads.

Thats the problem with some shops/dealerships they try upsell you on stuff or quote outrageous price. To turn all 4 rotors and install motorcraft pads (its all we use as we are a dealer) your talking 2 hours labor @93.00/hr plus 40-50 in pads. Thats how i would quote it as THEY ARE KNOCK OFF ROTORS. Just did mine! (04 non heritage fx4 f150)

The 4x4 is a slip off rotor. No bearing repacking during brake job in a 4x4.

Check out local machine shops. I do them myself for my vehicles' disks and drums.

A local shop here usually does them for 15-20 a piece

If you were taking them off yourself maybe an hour to turn all 4. So 93.00 and they would probably cut the labor rate to a flat 80.00 dollars.

Take them into a NAPA we charge $15 per rotor and it takes about 1 hr to 2 hr depending on how many passes we have to make

$15-25 dollars to turn them each ?? for a little more you can buy new ones... why turn them and remove metal you may need to prevent warp/heat

Seems as though I have read a few threads about vibrations when depressing the brake. Do not know why anyone would want to make the rotors any thinner. "Back in the day" I could see turning the rotors, they had some meat on them. I wouldn't put lower end rotors or pads on one of these "heavy" trucks. When I do have replace the brakes on my truck I will put on a lower dust pad (hawk) and higher end rotors. Brakes are not one of those items you want to go cheapo. That price the garages quoted you was probably IF they could turn them. Sometimes they are unable to turn them. Replace rotors and watch the $$ start to go up!

If I recall correctly, don't the 4x4s have a sealed bearing hub in the front? Repack it? are you kidding me?
