Today I had to back up with the tailgate down and the reverse alarm gave a constant warning tone. No beeps. Is this normal? 2005 lariat 4x4 5.4 auto.

Are you referring to the backup assist? If so, mine does the same on my 2016.

Yes, it is normal. It "sees" the tailgate.

Yes it is normal.. turn it off when your tail gate is down..

Yeah.. intermittent beeps go to a solid beep when youre about to (or are currently) hitting something.


It thinks you're really close to backing into something.

I have a 2017 F-150 . Same steady alarm sound when in reverse with tailgate down. I checked the dash when I put it in reverse (with my foot on brake) and saw this:
ALARM ON (this was highlighted)
OFF
On steering wheel on the left, I pressed the DOWN arrow, so Off was highlighted. Pressed OK . Alarm turned off. May come back on with each start, didn't check that!
