Default Brake issue

I have a 2004 4.6 XLT I recently bought. The family said they had a friend replace the back brake lines and the brakes. He actually put the brakes on backwards and completely messed it up and we just had to replace the rotors, calipers, and brakes. There's something weird that happens with the truck that I'm trying to figure out. When I start the truck up the brake pedal does some weird grinding noise/feel when I drive around under ~30 mph. If the ABS light comes on the dash the brakes feel perfectly fine when I apply them but when the light is not on the brakes have some extremely weird grinding sound it does and it like rattles when I apply the brakes and even pushes back so I;m assuming this has to do with the ABS system. There is plenty of clean brake fluid so I know that's not the issue. Any ideas?

I havent scanned it. Should I bring it to autozone or something and have them scan it?

It may have a pending code in there that could lead you in some direction. Im not much of a brake guy so just throwing an idea out there. Is it safe to drive with the brake problems though? Don't do anything dangerous.
