Default Replacing rack and pinion

i been looking for the reason for the noise in my front axle as soon as i start turning to the right. the sounds happen with the engine on or off. that removes the power pump from the reasons. also there is no play in the bearings when pushing the tires or turning them while elevated, etc.
the rack seems to be moving a bit rough and the workshop is suggestion to replace the rack an pinion.
i check for prices around is about $800 in dealer and no dealer.
found that replacing the rack is no big deal, easy to be done, i can do that and have it aligned after that. i could order the part from tasca for around $300 (seems that new instead of rebuild, have to confirm that).

pinion is suppose to be part# 12... i dont see why to replace it, i may replace just part# 4 for now.

suggestions on how to made this welcome. im reviewing my haines guide now.
even a cheaper dealer in NY, NJ if you know somebody.
70k miles in the truck now.
thank you

Ohhhhh you are talking about the pinion seal and the CV shaft...The rack and pinion is something completely different...You want to replace part 4 on that diagram which is the CV half shaft??

That picture is the front axle, not the cv shaft... Next to 4 is the rotor and tire. Maybe I'm confused... This part show in front plane here:

That would be your CV shaft.

Bingo..that is the rack and pinion. The was the most difficult part for me to get understand when I put my lift on..I had to install spacers on the rack and pinion and I was like where the hell is that? haha. It took me a lot of reading to finally get it and understand how to work on it.

picaflor, same boat with my 07. **Sneeze-MONEYPIT!!!-sniffle** Got too much money in to sell it. I'm in for the long haul..

Anyone know anything about changing the "tower seals"? Spent three hours hunting down the stupid part that appears to be soaking my undercarriage in power-steering fluid. I think its the "tower seal". 3K664

Anyone have any idea of how to mend this problem?
