06 F-150 not starting and running doggy if it does start.
I have a 2006 F-150 FX4 59K miles, yesterday I had the my first problem with it. I tried starting it and it failed to start three times but was turning over beautifully. I'll mention also I've never had a miss start before this. It finally started and was idling really sloppy so I figured I'd better get it home. i got on the highway and the check engine light came on and was blinking, you could tell there was a lack of power and when I hit 70-75 it shook and was really sluggish. I got home and tried starting it a hour later and it wouldn't start for anything. I sprayed a little starting fluid in the airfilter box and it started but idled sluggish and the check engine light was on solid this time so I shut her off and replaced the fuel filter. Now it starts but idles sluggish and still has the solid check engine light on. ????? any thoughts or opinions?

As long as it runs, and the cel is not blinking, take it to autozone.
They will pull the code for free.
Their computer also has probable causes for each code.
Just hearing your story so far, it would be like throwing darts at a service manual...
Let us know what you find, or if you need more advice.
Always interested.

My coil packs went out overnight in my 05 F150 lariat. Started fine the night before, was a hard start the next morning with loss of power around 3k rpm. Check engine light was going on and off.
It was intermittent though, but when I took it to the dealership the replaced the coil packs and all was well.

ok so an update, I went out to start it and it started to turn over then it sounded like the started just locked up or something. The second time I turned the key it didn't even try turning over it just sounded like it locked up.
Sounds like the problem is a starter here but what explains my truck barely being able to idle and running sloppy as hell?

Maybe 2 seperate problems.
If it does not turn over at all:
First try jumping it to see if the battery is the problem.
Then check fuses.
If it still doesn't start, rap the starter with a hammer a few times.
(that'll usually get you a few more starts if the starter is bad....)
Once you get it to crank, then you can diagnose the other problem....

I bought a new battery about a month ago so I'm doubt it's that but I guess it's still not ruled out. Any idea how many volts the battery should read across both post? I hardly ever drive this truck so this is frustrating.
