Replace ignition coil boots OR entire COP's
I think I may have a couple cop boots that are not getting good connection or allowing spark to jump. Nothing that is causing a code on a particular cylinder, just a small miss at idle and noise on the driver side. Have any of you had success just replacing the coil boots and springs rather that replacing all of the actual COP's?

I am thinking about just doing the boots. Plugs have less than 10K on them. Coils have been on and off probably 5-6 times in the last 6 months changing phasers, chains, tensioners, guides. With 125K on them I am thinking they may not be making the same connection they did in their prime.

Take some paper type fingernail files and cut them short ways and then length ways and use those to sand down the copper nipple inside the COP before installing the new boots and springs. By doing this, you should never need to replace a coil. I have ran coils up to 200,000 miles with this method. I have put over 400,000 miles on Ford trucks and cars that use COP's and have never replaced a COP, I just always rebuild them with new boots and springs and sand the contacts on the COP itself.

while you are in there torque all sparkplugs
Big problem, people do it by feel . That doesn't cut it in todays aluminum head engines . Consider cleaning out cyl around plug tip next time to prevent damaging new plugs . Some carb cleaner really helps . Just make sure you allow time for evaporation to not hydro cly . Try 25 to 28 pounds .
