Well dang. Just got the oil pan off and the first good thing has happened since this project started!

When I originally tried to get the broken dipstick out I tried using a tap to thread it to get a bolt in there to pull it. Well the tap broke and I used a punch to get it out of the way. Little did I know that the punch apparently pushed the broken tap and the piece of dipstick tube down into the pan with it!

Looks like I won't have to get creative getting it out of there, now just gotta get the new one in.

As far as putting the pan back on should I use some RTV on it or is the factory gasket reuse able?

I thought about going the RTV route, but with the creative angles and such that you need to twist the pan to get it back in, I figured it would just marr up the RTV. I went with a new gasket because my rig has 115k on it and didn't want to take the chance of it leaking. Not sure if they are reusable.

I reused the gasket and used some rtv even though it is a pain getting the pan back up without messing up the rtv. Good luck with everything!

I got the new tube in by using a 5/8 socket over the top with a 12" extension. Hammered it in gently with a rubber mallet from the top. Put plenty of oil on the tube going in and cleaned the rust from the hole with a drill bit on low speed on a handheld cordless drill and cleaned with PB blaster. Now to throw everything back together. I'm gonna take my chances with the RTV route because I don't have a way to get to the parts store
