Default Remove Door Check

I need to replace the drivers side door check on my 2006 F150. I know the part is cheap and everyone says its easy to replace, but I can't figure out how to remove the part. The door check is easily removed from the door, but I don't see how to remove it from the body. There are two nuts you can remove from the outside of the body, but these bolts don't free the part. Can anyone provide some insight. I can't get at the part from the inside of the drivers side kick plate even after I remove the parking break. Any help is greatly appreciated. I really don't want to take this to the dealer, but the sound when the door opens and closes is driving me nuts. Thanks alot.

It's a plastic arm about 6" long that goes from the door into the cab. It's right between the top and the bottom door hinges. I've had enough of the sound when I open and close the door. I have to get it replaced. My door sounds like a 20 year old jalopy when I open it.

The bracket that holds the arm to the door is cracked in half. Every time I open or close the door, it loudly "pops" as the bracket moves open and closed along the cracked side.

I had to change mine on my 06 as well. The hardest part is just getting access to the back side of it where the nuts are. You have to unbolt your emergency brake mechanism and kind of pull it in, so you can get to the two nuts that hold it in. Once you get those its an easy job. I didnt even know there was anything wrong with mine, untill my friend who is a ford tech opened the door and told me that it was broke. Now with the new one in I realize it. Good luck.

I just looked and forgot its not the nuts you have to get to it's getting the piece out and the née one in that you have to unbolt the emergency brake bracket and behind it is a plastic cover that needs to be pulled out that will give you access to the door check.

I replaced my drivers side on my 06. I didnt remove the e brake. I just removed the plastic cover. look up under the dash above the ebrake. theres a panel that you pull off and can reach in and grab the door check. Its a tight fit but it can be done.
