Default Rebuilt transmission... need to vent

So... I pull my transmission ( whew what a job ) and then took it to be rebuilt. I provided all the parts ( thanks Oregon performance ! ) along with the cure kit from sonnax. Also swapped out the bands with Kevlar... Got the tranny back , new torque converter, and filled her up with Amsoil heavy duty transmission fluid.. took her for a spin and I have no overdrive still. That's the original reason for pulling it.. Builder advised it was time for a rebuild anyways... Now I gotta drive 45 min just so they can fix it... Told em I wasn't pulling it again. Also told em to reuse the tranny fluid cause it was 160 bucks for 4 gallons... Busted my *** pulling it and reinstalling it..

That sucks man. Are you getting any codes? Loss of overdrive can be caused by a faulty TPS and even a faulty temp sensor in some cases. Is the torque converter locking in and out properly?

I know your pain as far as changing them out. I would have them recheck the valve body to make sure they did the rebuild correctly before you pull it out again. Good luck

An overdrive issue doesn't always mean a transmission problem. Could be something as simple as a faulty O/D on/off switch or wiring, a fault in the PCM, and like I mentioned above a faulty TPS or temp sensor. It's not uncommon for a shop to tell you your due for a rebuild because you have such and such miles. When in fact the problem lies elsewhere.

Originally my overdrive servo snapring busted. I downshifted trying to pass a bigrig when it broke. I pulled the valve body and could only find 2 of the 3 pieces that broke in the valve body. I thought I had pulled the valves but I guess I missed one because when the shop built it they called me and told me they found the missing piece and a valve was stuck. Fortunately I don't have to pull it again. Shop said they would drop the valve body Monday and fix the issue. He said there was the possibility that the servo stem slipped off the OD band. This shop has a very good rep and I'm sure they will make it right. He pinged all the new solenoids and verified the torque converter was locking. Possibly scored the valve and might have to bore it and repair but will find out Monday. I have 202000 miles on the original transmission so it was time for a rebuild anyways. I've got about 700 in New parts including torque converter and Amsoil heavy duty transmission fluid. I'm sure it's valve body related. I've checked all fuses and everything that could possibly be relatated to it.

Good to see that you're on your way to getting it fixed up.

I had this problem, everything was fixed after I took it to transmission shop. I wish I could recall the exact problem but it was something like servo snapring possibly? I know it was something that broke into a few pieces, part fell down I believe. Wasn't a big bill, around 3-4 hundred I think.
But.. about a year later, my whole transmission went out, including reverse except first gear, that, is when I had a full rebuild.

Well, I took it back, and low and behold the OD Servo Stem had fell off the OD band. Everything is back together and sounds and feels great hearing the OD kick in. Ill pay for the rebuild in a month with gas mileage improvements! Woot!
