Rear End Humming

Pinion bearing or wheel bearing - both likely possibilities. I would check the rear end lube first. Not likely ever been changed. Check the level and the condition for dirty/contaminates - if low top it off or drain and replace. May help to add a little STP.

Mine would gradually get louder the faster you went. It would get quiter when you let off the gas pedal but not disappear completely. It cost me $50 because I bought a warranty when I bought the truck. Oh and then 3 months later it went out again because fords parts fail but that fix was free.

I've got another question for you guys. Does the small screen in the dash that displays the temp outside, compass heading, and odometer have a backlight on it? I can not see it at night at all. I would be pretty stupid if there was not one. I hope a bulb is just out.

The rear end of my truck is making a similar noise. It only does it between certain speeds though. Only between 48-51.5mph. And same as you said once i let off gas it doesnt make the noise anymore. Any speed below that or above that there is no noise at all. My truck is an 06 lariat cc. 4x4 with the 3.73 limited slip. With 71,000 miles. Any ideas on what that could be?
