there is a couple fixes to this. 1) in a posi/trac-loc re-shim your side spider gears to get a closer fit, replacing the clutch packs will fix it too. 2) in a non limited slip. ( but also works for limited slip) , go to a hardware store, get 2 flat washers, try to get the thinnest you can, get your C-clips out and trace them onto the washer, cut out with a dremmel/die grinder and put them in along side of your c-clips. I only know of the second one because my old roommate had a mustang (8.8 rear end) track car and he was always rebuilding the clutch packs to get better performance and I picked that trick up from him.

Sometimes I get a clunk in the back. I have fixed it a couple of times by just re torquing the leaf/shackle bolts. It's worth a shot, and it would be free.

Ok...new mystery. I decided to just crawl underneath to do a little more investigation and tried to torque up the leaf spring bolts - they were tight as can be. Next easy suggestion was to look for a loose dampener. Ok, so not knowing where they are I started looking around, and noticed something that didn't look right. There are what appear to be body to frame mounting points right in front of the rear wheels and in the middle of the cab, and then there are also points that can be seen toward the very front of the cab.

At *three* of these mounting points, a bolt protrudes, and doesn't have a nut...at the fourth, there is a plate that looks like the top of a bolts sticking upwards...see pics:

Point one - passenger side

Point two directly across from point one - driver side

Point three - driver side front

Point four - passenger side front

Ok, SO WHAT IS THE DEAL? First, what are these point called? Second, should they all have nuts? Or plates, or what? Is there a specified torque for these things? I tried to look these up on Tasca, and the picture of these plates is nuts, the plate they had was kidney shaped, not round...so I must be looking in the wrong place...

Not sure if this is causing my clunk, but WTH...only thing (short of the C Clips, which are next on the list)...thoughts, good sirs?

PS: why would three plates have grooves, and the fourth be smooth?
