Default Rear Driveline, Front Yolk...

I have a question, on the front yolk, where it goes into the transfer case, its like a two piece unit. It has the yolk, and then what looks luke a rubber gasket and then a outer ring...what is the gasket and outer ring for?? A dampner??

It's a vibration dampening ring. Bonded rubber similar to a harmonic balancer crank pulley.
