Default damn....

I have an 04 that i just got a month ago and the dealer that sold it do me (GM dealer) said that they "were pretty sure the oil got changed". so i went ahead and changed it, and sure enough it hadnt, so i put in mob1 5w20 full syn to try and help my noise but it soulds like the damage has already been done. got a quote to get the phasers for 241$ apiece so me and my dad will probably be tearing the valve covers off sometime this winter if this does not help w/ the issue.

has anyone seen changing to 5w20 full syn after the "who knows what was in it before oil" help clear up the cam phaser issue(clear out the gunk)?

Also, would anyone recommend and how long can you run seafoam in the crankcase to help "clear out any gunk"

I put the mob1 5w20 ful syn w/ a motocraft filter from the local stealership.

I buy used trucks ONLY and I have bought more than I can count on 2 hands... EEK! But I never trust what they tell me about maintenance. I just change all the fluids and filters anyway, check spark plugs, etc...

As for the cam phasers, I am not sure... I would try 1/2 can of seafoam in the crank case and 1/2 thru the TB and change the oil after 500 miles...

Cam phasers are gay! I want to repace mine but I can't aford to have it done so I'm thinkin about tackling it this winter. The only thing I'm worried about is geting it back time correctly. Does anybody know what tools are requied for this?
