I'm hoping it's just surface rust but I'm afraid these cab corners rust from the inside out. I'm going to break out the sander and hope for the best!

Don't get your hopes up my friend. This is pretty common once you start to look at all the F-150s. It's a seam up top that lets water in. You will probably have to cut in a new bottom. I think Especial has a thread on this leak here if you search for it.

That's what I was afraid of! I have the ability to fix it right, only problem I have is lack of time. The bed will have to be slid back to gain access in cutting out the old and welding in the new. But at the same time I don't want it to get worse and chance it taking the rockers with it.
