Question Re-programming 08 F-150?

I have a an 08 F150 with the 5.4 triton that has a custom program from when it was “stock”, their used to be no performance exhaust except for a Y-pipe instead of a muffler, no CAI either. It was programmed with no other performance mods but was calibrated for the lift and tires. I now have a AFE Stage 2 CAI, custom cat-back exhaust system(Hi-Flow cats, 3” pipe from the Y to a MagnaFlow straight through muffler, single out the side) and a SCT X4(only so i could see engine parameters) but im still running the pre-modification tune. After these mods i saw i bit better performance increase but im worried that im missing out on some power. Ive also been debating on getting the BBK 80mm throttle body for some extra get up and go, but ive read mixed reviews about it. Should i get the truck re-tuned to see greater performance? Any advice would be helpful, thank you!

I would think that you would maximize your set up potential by having a tune which accounts for your specific modifications.

I have the X4 also with custom tunes from 5star. After installing a new engine, transmission, torque converter, melling HV oil pump, Stainless long tube headers with the CAT delete kit, high flow resonators, magna flow exhaust, CAI, and throttle body spacer, i had them wright tunes for my setup.

I drove it about 10,000 miles to break everything in b4 installing the tunes and it did make a dramatic difference in performance, drive ability, and my economy went up as well. I have towing, performance, and economy tunes for 93 and 87 octane but i have only ever ran 93 in the new engine and keep it on the performance tune most of the time.

Point is, I have been satisfied with the results and do feel like the programming accounting for modifications is essential to maximize the potential of those mods and to allow the engine to function properly with those mods being recognized by the logic.

Just my experience and hope it helps.

Thank you for the information. I called the shop (MadTunes Racing) and they can get it done in no time since they already have their custom tune in the pcm. Im going to stick with their tunes since ive had great customer experience with them and the tune itself.

That's awesome!

Let me know how it works out and what the results are.
