Default Rattle on Startup

Been noticing a slight rattle on startup. Phasers, Chains, Tensioners, or Guides? Gonna do an overhaul soon but just want to be sure.

My truck had the most annoying rattling sound for the first 10-15 seconds after starting up and then would slowly disappear after the truck started warming up... Turned out to be a broken spot weld on the heat shield of my cat. Just took it off and hasn't rattled since

Well this sound only last for about a second and then it's gone. I'm assuming its the chains rattling.

Classic chain slap symptom. Only after a cold soak correct?
If those are all the original timing components she is due for an overhaul. With these engines you got to pay the piper at least once with a brand new front end every 125k+ miles. Sucks but it doesn't stop me from LOVING these trucks !

Truck is JUST SHY OF 93,000 MILES.....Sound is noticeable from drivers side, seems like it only does it on cold starts. Called my warranty company and they said they would cover it since it's considered an internal engine component. I have about 7,000 miles left on my warranty so thank the lord! (For all of you wondering...I purchased the truck used in 2012 and bought an aftermarket extended warranty that was good for 100,000 miles or 5 years....which ever came first....I've already had a rear end replaced under the warranty for a cost of $1500, and hopefully I won't have to pay a dime for the front end overhaul this time either!)

Well that's good. If it turns out to be the chains, make sure both chains, the tensioners, guides, and phasers are replaced. They all work together. Or you'll be doing it yourself later when the warranty is done. And if anything is broken, make sure the shop drops the oil pan to clean it out.

My 2007 Lariat 5.4 does this, but a little different. I bought it in March, 2010 with 43,000 on it. From day one, I noticed it would rattle on startup, but only occasionally. It can sit overnight and I can start it up and it'll rattle for maybe a half second. Then other times I can let it sit for 3-4 days and start it, no rattle at all. Have never quite figured it out. Currently has 132k and still does the same thing with the same pattern and it runs great.

That is weird... either way I'd replace it all
