Default Rattle at cold start up in drive only

hey yall, have an 06 scab 4x4 5.4 with little over 65k miles

recently as it started getting really cold here the truck has been making a rattling noise when it starts up but only when im in drive and not moving. doesnt do it in park or when i rev the motor or while driving. and once the truck gets warmer it goes away in drive moving or not. i was thinking like something loose on the exhaust but i have no idea.

What oil filter are you using?

Check where the air filer input starts at. The nozzle is put into the frame and there's a rubber piece that goes around the plastic air intake and connects it to the metal panel. If the rubber grommet slides down the plastic from the air intake rattles around in the metal opening in the body.

If that doesn't make sense I'm sorry. I will take a pic a little later when I get home from work if that helps. I had the same issue and that's what it was.

it is the air intake. i started it up put the truck in drive and put on the foot break popped the hood and was looking around an happened to grab the air intake to balance myself and the noise was gone. it was dark out and 20 dang degrees so i havent pin pointed where it is loose or whatnot but glad its some loose plastic and not mechanical.

ps a pic of what youre talking about might help. thanks yall

While you're at it, check the foam around the air filter tray. They tend to fall apart. You might not see any foam around it, but it's supposed to be around the sides and bottom of the tray.

I think I will look at mine as well. Mine makes a rattling sound when I first fire it up and then when I am driving until maybe 5 mph then it goes away.

Bad thing is that I couldn't get it to make the noise just now (go figure), but I did pop the hood and check this air intake and sure enough the seal wasn't correct. Shoved the boot in and the seal locked into the fender. Hope that was it! Either way it will make less noise now. Good call!
