The shock has everything to do with the ride height when the vehicle is in motion. Why do you think it's called a shock. It is supposed to keep the downward and upward motion controlled and these shocks did nothing to control either.

Take the shock off and drive it, the ride height will be the same but the ride will suck.
And my 9000 series felt oddly soft when I was putting them on but they seem to ride great, I haven't tried any off-roading with it yet
