Quick Poll - Lockout phasers or no?
FordSilly is the biggest proponent of the Livernois lockouts (or something similar)...to defeat the phaser slap/ticking problem many of us have or have had.
I purchased a Ford OEM timing kit and will be installing it as soon as I get it. With so many having the problems return, I am leaning very heavily towards the Livernois lockout kit.

I say if you have the know-how to install the lockouts yourself, go for it.
I usually say "no, fix it right", but it seems like a good percentage of people "fix it right" for a few thousand miles and then the issue returns. So perhaps the correct fix is to do away with the issue all together. The decrease in mpg form VCT elimination isn't substantial.

After reading several posts about the replacement phasers going bad, they mostly seem to be the dorman replacements failling, not the motorcraft OEM sets.

Thanks guys, I do appreciate the feedback. Some additional thoughts...
Pros
Fixes (elminiates) flaw in a poorly designed VCT.
Elimination of current and future phaser knock / slap.
Piece of mind.
Custom tuning still possible.
Cons
Requires a tune (from Livernois) that cannot be modified for tire size, WOT, etc.
No bolt-on tuners can be used.
Custom tuning quite expensive (~$200 per custom tune)
Less compatible with aftermarket items? (e.g. headers, intakes, etc.)
Some reports of decreased fuel mileage.
Livernois claims only 10-15 rwhp loss on top-end; some report more like 30-40 rwhp.
Failures of the VCT can still occur with the tensioners (which is fairly common).
Note: See my latest comments on another thread here.
