Question Question about Magnaflow exhaust.

I went to a muffler shop yesterday and got this quote. They carry both flowmaster and magnaflow, and i asked about the magnaflow. (Dual side rear exit)

He said he would sell and install the Magnaflow muffler and back for $300. Not from catback on, just from muffler and back.

I have a couple questions and comments about this.

It sounds like a good price to me, sounds real good. I have heard that tubing from the cat to the muffler is the same size as the tubing they would send you in a catback kit. Is that true? If it is, then it wouldnt matter if i got muffler back instead of catback.

If i go with this, will i get less performance than if i went with a catback system? Will it not sound as good?

My issue is.....i wanna save money, but not if it effects performance or sound quality.

Comments pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.....

the catback kit would come with 3" piping, stock is 2.5" if your really hurting for cash then just go with the muffler shop. the difference in hp will be minimal

Magnaflow is definantly the way to go. Quiet at idle, no drone at speed and out performs the Flowdisaster.

i just ordered the Magnaflow cat back system... in front of the muffler its only a intermediate section anyhow... the Y pipe connecting the two Cats remains... i can't see there being any differance if the only thing there not supplying is the intermediate pipe... sounds like a good deal. i paid 500 bucks for only an extra intermed. pipe by the sounds of what your saying.

Does this make sense to everyone else or did i get ripped off??

http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...ne=all&id=1580

notice in the picture there is no Y-pipe... I just mate into the outlet of the Y-pipe...

For a true cat back system shouild the Y-pipe come as well or does it make a differance?

That picture is a single in single out. There is no Y to it. It should go right behind the catalytic convertor.

Default sweet

good info guys, keep posting!!!!! lolol, im learning more by the day.

Soooo it seems like there would not be that big of a difference if i went with muffler back, rather than cat back? correct?

Just like 2 or 3 ft of piping.... and its 1/2 inch difference

Yeah, moreless it will be the same set up. However your Y-pipe provides the Backpressure you need. Instead of openning up into a bigger pipe up next to the Y-pipe your doing it back at the muffler. Which on my truck is a minor 18". Which shouldn't make that much differance.

For example: if i gain 10 HP, you'll only gain 7 to 8... i would assume thats about all the differance it'll make.
