Question about level 2 on edge evolution?

Do i need to run 89 octane fuel to run level 2 on my edge evolution? Or will 87 be okay to use? Thanks :)

brown1 03-08-2012 04:11 AM

run mine on 87 with no problems(knocking on wood), if you run level 3 though it will spark knock like heck!

chromefonica 03-08-2012 04:27 AM

The manual states that level 2 is safe to run 87 and 89. Level 3 is strictly 93 and higher.

I never run any more than 87 in my truck and its on level 2

91 and higher actually.

87 is good for level 2.

It's all good. We all have those days.

What about running 93 on level 3? I've heard that it will advance the timing too much. We only have 87, 89, and 93 around here, no 91.

You can run it on lvl 3 with 93 oct fuel no problems. If you wish you can bump your timing up .50 for each oct level. But as is it will run 93 oct no problem.

I run lvl 2 with a timing of 2.00 because I run 93 octane. I could push higher by 1.00 or so but I like it where it's at.

PS: you should make timing changes in .25 increments if you are unsure about it. If it knocks once bump it down ASAP.

Been running on level 2 all the time since August last year.

have done my best mpg ever on a 2000miles trip on level 2.

My manual has 91. Not to start a flame war, do we really need to add in some sarcasm marks(!!!).

Quick question not trying to jack the thread but on a 2000+ mile long trip would I get better mpg in level 1 or level 2? It's be from NorCal to new Mexico

Listen to techrep he is completely right. Even when you go to switch to level three it says that you must strictly use 93+ octane for the tune. I know because when I got my custom tune from Bill I made sure he switched the 93 octane performance tune to 91.

Umm level 1 is strictly a transmission tune. It slightly changes the shift points and firmness while level 2 changes the actual engine timing and such to squeeze out more horse and torque. It can be better but because it is a tow tune you will notice on takeoff that you will be somewhat sluggish. However if passing isn't a main concern on the trip then yes tune 2 will be better suited for you.

I would but this is from the edge evo manual. Check edges site if you don't agree.

Again not trying to flame war just relaying what I read.

"High Performance Program (91+ octane fuel)
This is the highest performance setting for the Evolution. The fuel injection and ignition timing strategies are aggressively tuned to extract the maximum performance from your vehicle without sacrificing drivability or durability. The transmission strategy is modified to take advantage of the increased engine performance by providing quicker, firmer shifts. Due to the high performance nature of this setting, you will be required to run 91 octane (or better) fuel."

Well it is possible that Edge updated their performance tune finally and lowered it to 91 octane because when I wanted to try out the tune on my Edge (level 3) it required 93 octane minimum. Do keep in mind this was summer of last year when I had purchased my Edge and I had gotten custom tunes shortly after that. When did you purchase your Edge?

It always worries me when I try to pass in level 2 I feel like my engine is gonna poop out er something is that just because all the timing and shift points make it so it's acting as if it's towing something I guess

That is weird. I remember my first tank of gas, was at SAMS club highest they had was 91. Boy did I enjoy eating my old 265/60-18 tires up. Now I got some 275/70-18 and she breaks em loose in my modified lvl2. Stock was a no go though. Does decent on the interstate too. :D
