Default Question about Cylinder Head Temp Sensor

Today I snapped my CHT sensor in the head on my 5.4 due to not thinking and over tightening it. My question is do I need that sensor for the truck to run? Will it throw any codes if I leave it broken? I am going to try an easy out tomorrow, but need to get my truck put back together pretty quick.

It will throw a code if left as is. The sensor communicates with the ECM and has an effect of fuel injectors if your truck thinks it's overheating. There's some other stuff it does also, but one way or another, you're going to have to fix it.

@nrivera04 is correct. Your truck does not even have a "coolant temperature" sensor. Coolant temp is "inferred" from the CHT and the PCM stuffs a calculated reading in an OBDII port so code readers thinks its reading coolant temp. The CHT is a pretty sophisticated sensor. An interesting article about it is here: http://www.searchautoparts.com/motor...ure-cht-sensor

Hope you get the busted one out ok. It would be a catastrophe if you cant or screw up the threads or something.
