Pursue or pass... 2004 FX4 SCREW swap for 2008 Lariat SCREW
I currently have a 2004 FX4 SCREW with 145k miles on it. I have done some work on this truck over the last couple of years with VCT solenoid replacements on both sides, spark plugs, fuel injectors, etc. My truck now has good signs of rust on both sides. I love the truck but hate the sore sight of rust.
Monkey brain is now looking at an 2008 Lariat SCREW. It has 50k less miles at 95k miles. Leather, interior controls improvements, DVD player, and most importantly no signs of rust. It is priced around $14.5k.
Pros: less miles by about 50k, no rust, leather, heated seats and enhanced interior controls.
Cons: about $5-7k price difference between what I can possibly get out of mine, not sure of what maintenance has been done other than routine oil changes
Comes down to really this. Lower miles and no rust. However, it is a crap shoot. Not sure how much longer my truck will hold out before an engine problem. Not sure of the gamble in spending a little extra money on the chance of a lower mileage truck is a good bet.
I am torn and am looking for what you would do if you were in this situation. Pursue or pass??

Hard to say, you've already got your 2004 fixed up, so it would be most economical to keep it, but then you'll be staring at the rust constantly. Have you considered getting the rust fixed? Got one of my cab corners cut out and replaced for $450, So i imaging both would be $800-$1000. I'm assuming it's cab corners since that's the most common on these trucks?
On the other side, the 2008 *should* not have the same problems with the VCT solenoid's, spark plugs, and injectors so if you did upgrade to the 08, you wouldn't have to worry too much about that; but then again it could potentially have more issues to work through. It's hard to say. It really comes down to personal preference, one could list the pros and cons all day.

How's she goin' eh?
A buddy has a 2004 with the 5.4 and had over 300k miles before he swapped motors. I forget what went but he kept up on maint. and whe he bought it it had 150k miles.
I would keep the 04 but I don't like chrome. You could have a body shop fix the rust, I understand it's a temp thing as rust is inevitable.
