When I was 15 I bought a 1991 mazda b2200 for $1,000.... No power steering, 2wd, nice "wave" decals, no bumpers.... I think your should let your kid drive the truck as is... I don't want to start a parenting battle but there is some sort of lesson in having a kid work for his stuff. Just saying... Kids gotta learn that fun stuff cost money...

let him drive it and as time passes he can decide on which way to go with the truck,, when i was 17 i had my first truck a 1979 f100 when i barely got it all i wanted was big wheels and and a loud exhaust as a started fixing it up i changed my ideas and went a different way,, most importantly i can say me and my dad were always working on it,, makes me proud to say i still have that truck

I understand what your saying by this, but I think it also varies from kid to kid. If the kids a spoiled beat and his daddy buys him everything he wants, then I absolutely agree with you, but if the kid is level headed and appreciates it, then I don't think there's much harm in it. My dad pitched in some on my truck and has even helped out a little on new tires and stuff like that. He understands that I appreciate it and I still work and have a job and earn a lot of the money I spend. Especially if they are spending time together working on the truck I don't see a problem with it

I agree. I ended up going in a different direction than I initially thought with the 1977 F-100 that my parents gave me in high school. My dad bought it brand new and had one stipulation when giving it to me, "Take care of her", he said. I got it for having straight A's through high school. I just redid it up and down. new paint (same color as stock), new engine, rims, tires, exhaust. Proud to say I still own it and drive it almost daily. Not a bad looking truck for having almost 1.1 Million miles on the body and frame.

Yep it sure is. My mom used to drive it to work and back every week from Elko, NV to Las Vegas, NV. Round trip was a total of almost 900 miles. Times that by a little over 15 years and there is 750000 right there. plus all the other trips they would take. So yes it is 1.1 Million miles.
