Possible prob w/ shiftlinkage. U too?
2005 5.4 XLT automatic transmission.
I was under the truck today and happened to look up while right under the driver's side exhaust manifold/transmission shift linkage area. The shift linkage cable runs right next to the exhaust, so close that it has been touching the connection between the exhaust manifold and the catalytic converter. Now the cable was assembled at the plant with a protective shielding, looks like a silver coily protection tube, but mine has a hole burnt in it from touching the exhaust.
Anyone else this happening to? Am I missing some sort of anchor that is supposed to pull the shift cabling away from the exhaust?
Could this be a possible defect that will be experienced by everyone? Check out yours.
Now I gotta find a way to anchor this cable away from the stupid exhaust. That cable is melting. And I've been hearing a sound when I shift between selections, like a metallic "creeeeeek" especially when it is cold out.
