For what its worth, I've had that sound since I've owned the truck, for the last 13 years. I don't think I'm in any danger of "spitting" a follower. What has started recently in the last few months is a chain tensioner gasket has blown out and I occasionally get the startup chain rattle.

There's a big benefit to the cast iron tensioners. No gasket to blow out. Metal to metal contact, just like the oil pump on the engine. I did buy some Permatex Optimum Black Gasket Maker just to be safe (necessary for certain corners on the timing cover and valve covers)

I have had 2. 168K and 175K, no issues with either one.

No gasket to blow out means no gasket at all, so the top end isn't getting the oil that is should; the whole problem with the stock tensioners is when they have "no gasket." Sure, the chains won't slacken and beat the guides to bits, but the only reason guys have luck with the ratcheting tensioners is the upgraded oil pump, so oil pressure to the top end is still higher than stock, but not what it could be. There's oil pressure left on the table. To each their own, but you gotta figure there's a reason why guys like Ford Tech Makuloco don't advocate the ratcheting tensioners, and actually advise against them...

I'm at the point that I'm unsure what I'm going to do if they go. Cut my losses and buy new/gently used, or sink a couple grand into it.
Hell, or just keep it and have another vehicle. Like an 06, black mustang with a tan top

Buy a wrecked F250 6.2 from Copart or IAA for < $2000 and do a full swap.

Default TOTALLY CONFUSING POLL "results"

Somehow --- the numbers are ALL screwed up.

YESes, indicate seven (7), however if I add up mileage responses under 'Yes', I get ten (10) ?????

NOs, indicate ten (10), however if I add up all mileage responses under 'No', I get fifteen (15) ????

"YESes" and "NOs" TOTAL 17. However "YESes" of 28% - would indicate 'x'/.28 --- or a total of Twenty-five.

Twenty-five _IS_ the number of "Voters:" indicated at the bottom of the table, BUT that would indicate the number of "MILEAGE" voters, NOT "Yes" + "NO" voters. The same is true comparing "NOs". Mileage votes under both YESes and NOs = 17, however (x/.4) = 25. Again, this would match percentage of total voters by using Mileage voter count placed under THAT category - but HOW if they didn't vote NO?

SORRY - I'M CONFUSED

I think some folks were unsure how to mark both answers and the mileage. I would take anything below either the yes or no, as an answer

On top of the engine replacement, 2 months later the same mechanic got him for new injectors, rails, coil packs. There wasn't a lot for me to replace when I bought it, other than the one VCT that went bad. It was good he saved receipts for all the stuff he had done, at least I have a partial history of the truck.
