Tommy 75703 great post. You gave great info without all the guessing. I'm really get tired of ford shady parts. This is my first ford truck and I'm glade I bought a used one, so I won't be stuck with it long. No offense to the loyal Ford owners but let face facts ford is lacking on quality and leaving us footing the bill.

Wow!! That is great, but one thing you can take from this is to get a second opinion on large expenses like that. I have heard too many stories of huge bills not fixing problems.

Took my truck to muffler shop today in regardes to the problems I`m having. Muffler guy (an old timer) said it sounds like it could be the plugs or fuel system prob.
spoke to tech at dealership and they`ll check the plugs at no cost.
So back it goes.

@Tommy7570
I live here in Dallas, TX and I'm having the same problem that you ran into. I have a 2004 F150 (new body style) with a 5.4L 103k miles. A week ago it just wouldn't turn over. I got it towed to the Ford Dealership and they are telling me that I need a new engine ($6500) bc of a sludge problem. I know that yours was just idling rough but I'm hoping that this is the same case where the VCT solenoids needs to be changed. I'm going to pick it up from the dealership today to get a second opinion but they didn't give me a huge explanation to what was wrong other than it has a sludge problem. Unfortunately I wasn't able to take pictures or get the codes it was shooting. I've always changed my oil regularly at 3k miles and I did mostly highway driving so I'm a little confused to why the engine would go out at 103k miles. Congrats on getting the $2200 back from the dealership by the way. Hope my luck is as good as yours.
