Plastidipped emblems and rockers

3 Attachment(s)
So last fall I plastidipped my rocker panels, bumpers, and wheel moldings with the Dipyourcar HVLP sprayer. When I first did it, i wasn't happy with the height of the paint line on the doors, so I scored a line with an exacto knife and peeled it. I think this was the reason it all started peeling this winter. (the horrible winter probably didn't help either...) Anyway, I decided to peel them off and re-spray them, (except for the wheel molding, those are getting krylon) this time using rattle cans, and from now on, I'm not breaking out the sprayer unless I'm doing a whole car. It sucked up a whole gallon of dip the first time around and I was only able to get 3 good coats on. With the rattle cans I got 2 light, and 4 heavy coats and only used 4 cans... The coverage is just as good as well... Also I decided to do my emblems as well, which I'm really happy with. What do y'all think?

That looks really sick, love the color of your truck man, I would like to do that as well... The only thing is, my STX 4x4 has no fender flares at all, think it would look dumb if I did the fenders when I do the rockers?

Thanks... I dont think it would look bad... Just try doing a 1 inch strip or so around the fenders. or just leave them unpainted and just do the panels...

The tricks to getting a good finish with plastidip...
1. Put the cans in warm water for 10 or 15 mins to warm them up...
2. Not every spray tip works well, so find one that sprays a clean coat and stick with it through the whole job.
3. Lay down 2 light coats, and about 4 heavier coats. The last coat should be very heavy and as uniform as possible...
4. If you are tearing a tape line, make sure you spray the line heavily on the last coat, wait 20 seconds for the dip underneath to re-liquify, and peel the tape at a sharp angle...

That looks excellent! I have been playing around with doing my rockers over the past few weekends. I was facing the same dilemma regarding fender flares, as I have none, but I think it'd look alright without doing them. As others have said, great quality on the dip job and getting clean lines!

Thanks! I have since painted the fender flares with Krylon fusion satin black so they match the dip... I'll try to get some pics this week sometime...
