yeah... Motorcraft / OEM seems to be the Consensus. I had a concern to the ECM as well as I swapped it with a reprogrammed one from Ebay.

The Reply I got from - your_part_source (If you need an ECM - Super Cheap, Like $120 cheap with vin programming included)

Thanks for the additional information. We'd see how things go after the Ford oem parts are installed and the codes cleared. One of our baseline tests for the ecu's we sell is the coil and injector circuits so we can assure you those circuits were tested on the ecu prior to being shipped. It could just be an aftermarket brand installed in the vehicle. We have seen this more frequently in Mopar vehicles with aftermarket parts. In regards to your prior question we do have a lot of customers swap ecu's due to injector/coil issues. Typically though the issue is mechanical which in turn pops the ecu circuits. Please keep in mind you have a 90 day warranty so please keep us posted as we do want to work with you to get the truck up and running!

In regards to programming when we program the VIN into the ecu the Ford software updates it to the latest software. Unfortunately we cannot undo this. If you needed to tweak something transmission wise we believe you may need to install a tuner.

Please email with any questions.

Thanks and Happy Holidays!

Hi, it does. It is for misfire on #5. While I had the old coil off, I put a new Duralast coil on it and then it threw the coil code.
The end problem is a slight hesitation which makes it feel like the shifting. Today I swapped the coil back and cleaned it up. I'll clear the codes and see how it goes. I expect to replace the coil with a new ford OEM coil, but I have to shop those around yet. I was hoping to use an aftermarket from Autozone.

The new/refab PCM solved my throttle body problem instantly. Where mechanically I had no problems, but the old PCM would not accept the throttle body positions and threw it into Limp mode.

I don't believe truck operating with the original PCM had the hesitation/misfire on #5. That's the odd part.

If #5 and coil is fine now and no codes and the hesitation is persistent - it would seem to be the ECM programming. I won't know until after the 30 day warranty is up as I have to go out of town for a week. I'll drive it a bit tomorrow/Friday and have an idea and check codes.

I'd recommend slowing the parts marry go round down and more carefully/accurately consider codes produced by perfectly working sensors and ECU. I've got a 'parts splatter gun' that hasn't been used for years that I'll sell cheap.

The code you mentioned 0355 is NOT a misfire. Movig the COP "MIGHT" cure it - ((If you plug the sloppy connector in better at the new location)). P035x is a 'CIRCUIT' problem. If intermittent, very unlikely in the ECU. However, the "Flashing CEL" made the subject of your thread _IS_ a 'misfire' indication (as stated earlier by @techrep ). More specifically the relationship to CAT is that "The misfire rate has exceeded the factory set CATALYST DAMAGING RATE". You need a Mode 06 diagnostic report to determine which bank / cylinder is the offender. But seeing 'dynamic' data isn't as important as doing a hospital clean, thorough plug job (with SP546's) and new Boots / Springs. It's like 'who cares' when a particular one misfires - we just want them ALL to work all the time to keep from ruining CATS. (which aren't ruined YET. ECU will give you a different code by the time that happens.)

Thank you for your detailed and thoughtful reply.

I did a good job swapping the plugs. Super clean. I've done a few of these trucks this year and I can make them purr.

I was hoping not to replace the coils/boots in this truck.

I chose to use the Autolite plugs on the principal that they are one piece and premium. It is a very good product.

I had to replace the ECM as the processor was bad.

This truck's combination of throttle body/ sensor /plug / coil /O2 / ECm limp mode disabling issues has encompassed darn near all of the contents of these forums to sort this out and get this truck rolling.

Assuming I have to replace all of the Coil/Boot/Springs with FORD/motorcraft OEM what AMAZON product do I buy?

The newest version of plug is SP546 .. these are a welded 2 piece plug and have not heard of any breaking thus far the plug it replaced was crimped and the plug before that was 2 piece.

Oh.. I cut and paste the Petal bit from the other forum I'm fairly sure I can't change the post title...

This Kitten is going to wake up soon...

Where can I buy OEM coil/boots? Other than the dealer? I don't think Rock Auto carries them...

A/C Delco is exactly like OEM.. Rockauto has them. I would not mess with COP,s until you have swapped plugs and new boots and springs and cleaned the contacts on the COP,s... you may be wasting money.

My 5.4 has done this since it was new, dealership couldn't/wouldn't do anything. It's now got 115k on the clock and still running. Not saying it's not a problem, but I wouldn't just start throwing parts at it other than plugs, springs and boots until further diagnosis.

Thanks guys. I'm fairly certain the COP on #5 is out or intermittent. I don't think I have a wire break.

I moved #5 COP to the #3 Position (Swapped them). I unplugged the battery and drained the ECM battery to reset.

The truck ran horrible. Throwing itself all over.

I moved the suspect COP back to #5 and it runs much better but the shift issue is still there and identifiable.

I'd like to be able to put a new COP on #5 with new boots on in this type of situation. Not spend time wondering or cleaning boots. Where the money is spent to save time - just not on all 8 at once. I will see what I can get with the AC Delco part.
