Default Performance mods for the 5.4 3v

Alright I’ve spent hours reading this whole forum for ideas and different things performance wise on the 5.4 3v. My truck is stock with the exception of MSD street fire spark plug coils and true dual straight pipes out the back. I want more but not so much more I’ll blow the poor 190k mile motor up. For horsepower what would you recommend I do I’ve thought about cold air intake but I’ve heard it does gain hp and it doesn’t gain hp. I’m afraid of going the tuner route because I know how sensitive the 5.4 is and Im afraid pushing up to 40+ hp will make it blow. It still is my daily lol. Basically what I’m asking for is a 320-330hp motor. Thoughts??

In my opinion air intake on these trucks is pointless.
Get a tuner like the edge set it on level 2 and call it good.

That's what I did and love the response. Drives like a different truck. It's still not a rocket ship, but much faster.

I did a pile of work on my engine last week only to find out that my brand new fan clutch is bad. You can have it. It won't increase performance but it'll sound like a jet engine!

just because your motor has 190k miles doesn't mean it can't be built up, to an extent though. the 5.4 is a damn stout engine internally.
an aftermarket cold air intake, a good one may give you a 20 horsepower gain. some tuners can give you upwards of 60 horsepower gain or more. and there are many settings you can change up within a tuner.

I have a converted Edge Evolution. I've played with all sorts of settings. I use the #2 Tow setting and then tweak shift firmness and a couple others.

I have a Volant cai, sctx4 tuner and bbk 80mm throttle body available if you are interested. This is the right combo to add power.

I have 2005 Super Crew 5.4 3v with Weapon X coils, Roush CAI, Edge tuner, long tube headers and duals with 4.10 gears (never been real happy with the gears upgraded to 20s to offset the gearing a little) 20" wheels 108k miles. I drive it very little just short runs around town to listen to enjoy the exceptional aftermarket stereo playing 80 hairbands tunes very loudly but it is alot of fun to romp on a little bit. Maybe a 80mm throttle body upgrade will be next. Outside of that it seems Ive run out of things to do without going internal which would be beyond my skills.
