Default Parking brake light on

Ford is charging me 900 to replace my cluster. Will not pass state inspection with light on even though nothing wrong with brakes. Why is a cluster so expensive with a light being on? I rather unplug nothing wrong with breaks, just don't understand a 900 dollar light bulb.

If it is the cluster you can buy a used one off ebay, just make sure it is the same year, model, and has the same features such as manual or auto climate control. Swap it yourself and then pay Ford to flash your mileage to the new cluster. I don't know what they charge to reflash the cluster. If it is not the cluster then you're still searching. From your user name though it sounds more like you should just sell it and buy a Chevy LOL

My guess would be more towards a wheel speed sensor or an ABS module but I'm guessing Ford already OK'd all that stuff?

My guess is the parking brake is not releasing all the way.. very common problem if you live where it snows a lot.. the release level in the back of the hub gets corroded.

Also for gee whizzes, make sure your reservoir is full. If it's pretty low, this will make the light come on.

I have a hard time believing that something is wrong with the cluster. All you have there is a light which is activated by a signal sent to it. I don't see how a cluster issue would cause just one light to come on.

Default No don't tell us what year it is or anything ,like location ,model ,miles etc .

You realize on this track you will have to change name to last blank that I will buy . They all have troubles . Just making a lighter note ,life is short fix it, don't let it break you .
Parking brake cables are subject to seizing if you don't use them for sure .
Also disc brakes empty reservoir as they wear , that will give an alarm too . As stated already in salt states parking brakes get badly corroded . They are not that hard to fix .
My guess is your cluster not bad . Look up parking brake on here, see some fixes .
Give it a test put it on and see if brakes are on .

I'd be getting a second opinion from another dealership. I find it hard to believe that a brake light being on in a cluster is due to a faulty cluster. possible I suppose, but as others have pointed out, its most likely due to a binding parking brake cable. I'd locate the switch at the base of the parking brake pedal, and see if the switch is fully released. It should be a simple spring loaded switch that is opened/closed by the parking brake pedal.

I had the same problem. fixed it simply by pulling the release lever and pulling up on the pedal at the same time.

Read through this thread. My brake light always stayed on as well, and resoldering the cluster fixed my issue. The thread is regarding the odometer but the issue is the same. Find the bad solder joint, and fix it.
