I researched it and figured it out. Thanks.

Thumbs up You guys nailed it!

'04 F150 FX4 SCREW, 169K miles, 5.4 - ABS light has been intermittent for several years, but never really amounted to anything, and always went away. Last week I left for town in a big hurry and low on gas. ABS light on. I saw I was about to follow a school bus through a string of stops, and didn't have time for that because wife was late for work: I floored it to pass the bus before the next stop and immediately it started sputtering and bucking. Sure I was out of gas, I lifted, then decided to try and get closer to the gas station as opposed to closer to home. Finally noticed the CEL and wrench once my panic ebbed.

Made it all the way, got gas, and managed to get my wife to work on time, but didn't figure out it was in limp mode until I started it back up leaving Home Depot and it initially ran fine. CEL and ABS were on, and just a ways down the road, the wrench lit up and limping started again.

Spent the next week too busy to deal with it, other than trying every stunt I could think of, seeing what worked. Once in a while it would run normally for up to 10 miles, but the CEL stayed lit. I pretty much ignored the ABS light, thinking I'd deal with that later if it didn't go away on its own.

Finally found the time to connect the OBD tool, and got 2104, 2106, 2111, and 2112: all throttle codes, including one indicating the throttle plate was stuck shut. Since I KNEW it wasn't stuck shut, by virtue of being able to drive it, I suspected ETB issues. In the last year or so, there have also been a few times when pushing the pedal down didn't elicit any change in RPM at all: I figured whatever the communication problem between the pedal and the ETB was probably my issue.

None of the codes were TPS related, so I went straight to the throttle body. Pulled it, cleaned it, took the DC motor apart (because of a fix I read on another string), saw absolutely NOTHING wrong, and put everything back together. I wasn't at all surprised that this made no difference.

Further research commenced, and I just happened to notice this post that mentioned the ABS light along with the 2106... reading all the posts, I caught mention of the possibility of a burned wire near the exhaust. I had a custom Cat-Back system installed when the truck was new, and it has been rotting off piece by piece over the last year. No time to deal with that, either, but, so far, the Flowmaster itself has stayed on. Barely, and with the help of some mechanic's wire. Everything behind it is gone.

So, I crawled underneath with a flashlight, and immediately found where my muffler guy got careless with his torch 14 years ago. The exposed conductors finally corroded away, I guess, and my hard launch to outrun the school bus must have wound the axle just enough to finish the job.

Who would remotely consider that a lack of ABS signal would trigger limp mode, but only as you pass about 40 mph? Usually...

Anyway, THANKS to those of you that posted your experiences, and I hope this narrative helps the next person.

Default P2106 no other codes

My 04 fx4, 5.4 would throw the cel, and wrench anytime you hit 40-45mph. It also had an abs light on. Most said to replace the tb and that the abs light would not be connected to the 2106 code. After cleaning old tb, maf, and then buying and installing a new one I had the same problem. Went buy a shop and had them scan the abs light(autozone and advanced couldn't pull it). Said the rear abs speed sensor was bad.

Replaced the rear abs speed sensor and now all lights are off and truck runs right.

I had found a few somewhat obscure references to this problem, which helped me. Hopefully this will help someone else.

Thanks guys!
I replaced throttle body fuel filter m air filter
im going to replace rear speed sensor
I did not get abs light on with p2106
