Default P0316 code

My 2007 with the 5.4L has been shuddering several times in the past week. Sunday it was like I was driving on the rumble strip, the truck was shuddering horribly but no codes. Yesterday it began shuddering once again and the check engine light flashed and I was able to pull the P03016 code for misfire below 1k rpm on start up from my edge programmer. I was driving around 1.5-2k rpm when the shuddering was at it's worst and I haven't gotten a code for a specific bank yet.

Some additional details : The truck has 84k miles on it and had new Motorcraft OEM plugs installed by a Ford dealership at about 64k miles and starts flawlessly so I'm not suspecting a coil pack. I have heard that sometimes when the temperatures frequently shift and gas stations begin switching from winter blend can cause these issues. Any truth to this? Should I try some fuel injector cleaner before taking it to the shop to see if that helps?

Pull your plug wires and test them and inspect them. I had misfire issues from a plug wire melting/shorting out to the exhaust manifold

Hi Chad81,
P0316 - Engine Misfire Detected on Startup

Possible Causes:
- Faulty Crankshaft Position (CKP)
- Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor harness is open or shorted
- Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor circuit poor electrical connection
- Ignition System
- Fuel Injectors
- Running out of fuel
- Fuel Quality
- Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM)

It ended up throwing a code for a #7 misfire, seemed to happen during rainfall. The 1st time my truck began shuddering was after a trip to the car wash with an under body rinse, seemed to occur during the rain as well. Ruled out the injector and changed the COP, has been running fine for several days.

Have you checked out your fpdm? Underbody flushes will soak a bad/corroded one and cause all kinds of odd issues.

It failed on me about a year and a half ago, replaced it already.
