Window problems
Here is a problem I've just encountered. I was away from the house for the past couple of days working. Last night a friend called and asked if i was at home. I told him no, i'm working. He then tells me that my rear passenger window is down. Long story short, he covers my truck so the interior won't be soaked when i get home. I get home and find the window down, battery dead, and when i jump the truck, every thing works except this window. It makes a grinding noise when you press the button. By looking at other posts, i know that i am looking at a regulator/motor. But has anyone had the experience of the window going down by itself?

Check this page out. Unfortunately it is a very common problem.

yes, the window has plastic runners that the glass sits in - when the window goes down more times than not this plastic seat for the window to sit in has sheared off. Or theres a problem with the cable itself. Hope you have deep pockets because your in for a 80-130 dollar expense to replace window motor. Regardless ford makes the window assembly on our trucks as one peice(regulator, motor, guides, and cables) bolted to the inside of the door frame. If its the rear door you will need to remove door panels. This is done by removing the clipped on panel peice on either side of the door panel that goes from the top of the door to aprox the bottom of the window. Next, remove the door panel bolts - two under the clipped panels you removed, one on the bottom of the door, another is under the power window control on the door. After those bolts are removed you can lift up on the door panel and remove the panel. Peel back the weather striping and remove the door speaker. After that you should have access to the window regulator. If you have a haynes manual the process is outlined in that with pictures.
