So Ford would install the harness regardless of whether it was attached to anything or not?

If it was loose, I could test for power and see how many wires. Does anyone know how it comes free?

Here's a photo I took by putting my phone up into the cutout... you can see the wiring is wrapped and the clip is immobilized.

In my opinion they are actually pretty useless. The back of mine keeps coming loose and makes a loud squeking sound.
A gun rack would be awesome! I'm going to take the clips from the existing one and see if I can make more or remove them all together for this project

If there's power on that harness, maybe we could rig a disco ball setup...

Surely somebody has done something cool with the rail system and/or replacing it???

Come on, photos/ideas???

I wanted to do something with it too, I thought it was a good idea. Now I've kinda decided it's worthless. Short of drilling into the rails themselves to attach something I don't know how else you would be able to

No drilling is required to mount somthing to the rails. They use clips so a gun rack would be removable.

Anyone have a flint compartment, in great shape, that they'd like to sell?

Sometimes, but not always.

I wiggled the clip and wires free today, and it seems there are only 3 wires... black, green and green/brown (IIRC). So I guess the DVD for the railmount needed only power, and not audio hookups?

I'm still thinking about a trying to mount a rechargeable flashlight or something and wiring power to the charger from here.

Yes, I understand that but no one make a gun rack with clips that fits the roof rails for these trucks. Just about the only thing you can get are glasses holders, cd holders and dvd players all from ford. And it would be near impossible to make the clip that attaches to the rail after examining it.
