And really the op is talking about a spool and you recommend two air (I'm assuming arb) lockers and on board air 😂😂...I don't think he wants to budget for that

You hit the nail on the head there hunter, albeit its not the fact that I don't want to budget for a fancy selectable locker and compressor and air tank and vulnerable air lines and the rest, you see where I am going here...

It's the fact that I don't need to have all the select ability. All I need is 2wheel drive for our summer gravel roads, going to the store, cruising or dropping the kiddies off at day care oh and also towing my boat down to our boat launch beach. Then 4wheel for pulling the boat out off the water on our rock strewn sand beach and also winter driving and then when you need to go hard core flip a 12v actuated vacuum switch and you have full 4 wheel drive.

If I blow a tire off a rim I don't need onboard air or if I break all I do is pull out my sat phone hit my Spot's help me button and call in the Calvary (that's the problem with my area you can go from fun to dead in a heart beat) and in a very short period of time I can have any tool, generator, compressor dropped via snow machine or atv to my location.

It always pays to have good friends

Cheers!

I'm not sure what's there, even if it has limited slip which is marginally better than an open diff when you engage full 4wheel drive via the front e-locker on the Yammy it will go places the Honda could only dream about. I know this first hand these are my two work machines and I have to use these as tool's not as a toy's because I am a Territorial Park Officer and during the short summer months my co-worker and I are on daily Park Patrols with these two machines, so I have very strong first had experience. And with the Park being 1200 or so square kilometers and in the Arctic we had to trade the southern golf carts, swing sets and slides in for emergency shelters, GPS's, Sat phones and Spot's.
Oh lets also not forget the 12 gauges and 30-06's
because the polar bears are pretty hungry here some times.
Google Katannilik territorial Park, and you will understand

Sadly, I have to agree that Honda has sat on its fanny and let others eat their lunch. They have fallen WAY behind with features like selectable 4wd, selectable locking diffs, independent suspension ect. Yeah, they have it now, but others have had it for years. They are also lacking adequate fender protection. I was riding a Polaris a few days ago and was amazed how dry my shotgun and myself stayed on the way out to the duck blind. I've been buying Hondas for decades because they are mechanically bulletproof, but they got complacent and didn't keep up with the competition.
I know this is thread drift, but its your thread so.........

So I have been searching for a day know for a good technical drawing or microfiche of the front axle for my truck but I can't seem to find anything. I am trying to figure out how the axles are held in place on these front 8.8's Any help? They aren't a c clipped axle like the rear are they? They can't be if there are lockers like e-lockers for these front axles. So that should mean a 28 spline spool for an 8.8" should fit. Any body know a drivetrain shop tech that can answer that one? I think today I need to call Niagara drivetrain and ask them. Or maybe Brock ford in the Falls they are an awesome Ford truck dealership.

12V Vacuum Solenoid Valve

This is a 12V 3 Port Vacuum Solenoid Valve 032-00109 & 11-00510 for SCS/VCS. Can be used as normally open or normally closed.

Here is a solenoid that will work for my needs.

So here is my Idea when the factory vacuum solenoid is triggered when you flip the 4X4 switch it stops applying vacuum to the front hub actuators there by allowing them to lock the hub and give 4wheel drive. So if I was to install 2 more vacuum solenoids inline to the actuators I could control them individually, locking either the passenger or driver side hub as I would see fit for the situation. By leaving one side unlocked, like it would be most of the time the front tires would be able to differentiate for easing turning. But flip the dash mounted toggle switch when SHTF and you got full bore lets giddy up and go kind of drive.

So I just got off the phone with Niagara drivetrain, super helpful guys. kind of made me laugh though because right off the bat it was no, no, no you can't put a spool in the front because you would never be able to steer the truck. So after explaining what I want to do and a brief pause for the guy to think about my idea. It was bingo he's on board and now understands. So I now know that the front axles are held into the carrier via an expandable retaining ring that is cut into the splined end of the axles. But the bonus part is it basically is just a reverse cut 8.8". Bonus, so a 28 spline spool will work as long as in its internal axle splines there is a groove for the axles expandable retaining ring. and if I cannot find a spool for this front axle that has this retaining ring groove my machinist buddies can cut one in easily. Ha, ha, ha some of the pieces are starting to fall into place here.

Well I was just in contact with Strange engineering. They presently at this time do not carry any sort of spool for this application. Oh well, no biggy it was the first place that I contacted, but the rep at Strange gave me a contact at FIGSPEED. They are a Las Vegas Speed Shop that builds Score Off-Road trucks. I am currently awaiting their response. Well the ball is rolling a little quicker now. Hopefully the ball doesn't come to a dead stop and I have to be like the masses and buy an e-locker

I wish you the best in your pursuit, but honestly I think the E-locker up front would be (by far) the best solution. From a driving standpoint, either way you're going to have to get off the power to engage or disengage. Regardless, you have the gray matter to make it work. I'm interested in the outcome.
