Open performance suggestions
Hi,
Hope this is posting in the right forum. I have a '06 XLT supercab 4x4. All it has performance-wise is AFE Stage 2 Si CAI. I'm starting a job in March which will involve 2years worth of road-trips in my POV. I'm looking to do what mods I can before mid-April to make best MPG and drivability. Here is what I have in mind:
1. Exhaust - corsa hi-flow muffler with single 3" pipe (It seems like a single big pipe would keep weight down, improve exhaust CFM, and keep price down. Haven't seen any info showing dual pipes having added benefit besides sound.)
2. Tuner - torn between the SCT and edge with the mounting pod. Also, does anyone know if there is a tuner out there that I could use on my F150 and my wife's Mustang(v6) (definitely a house of ford here
)
3. Tonneau - Thinking Bakflip HD. For all the road trips it would be great to do like the country song and have a bed that doesn't need to be made. Just unroll a sleeping bag and crash in the back. I live in the Grey Northwest, so waterproofing is essential as we get about 8 months of rain a year.
4. eFans - I like the idea behind this mod, but the forum discussions seem controversial at best.
5. anything else I could do for better MPG besides taking the wife's mustang which gets ~24mpg
Gotta make sure the truck stays a truck, lotsa trips to Mt Hood snowboarding in the winter, camping and dirtbike hauling, and wave-runner towing in the summer.
Thanks in advance to anyone taking the time to proffer your knowledge.

1. 3" single will do just fine. Corsa is a good sound. Don't expect a huge gain from a cat back exhaust.
2. SCT or if you like the pod go with the Gryphon from Power Hungry performance. Get a custom tune for the CAI.
3. The only question about efans is reliability, they do produce a gain. A quality system will have a low rate of failure but isn't as fool proof as a mechanical. Go with either Spal or 09-11 F150 fans and a good dc controller.
After all of these mods are done there isn't too much left you can do to help mpg besides altering driving style.
