Okay i seriously need some help on this
Okay I know most of y'all are f150 owners and drivers but I got an offer the other day that I'm trying to decide if it would be a good idea or not and need some opinions. I got offered a 2004 silverado 2500hd 6.0l gas for $3500 by my stepdad, it does have 221,000 miles all highway pretty much on it but it's still running great and he's the only owner, and right now I have a 2005 f150 single cab that I know I can get at least $7500 for it. I'm still paying my dad back for it and owe $1500 left, but I'm about to leave for college in the fall and I could sell my truck pay off my dad buy the truck and have about $2500 left to do whatever I want and no truck payments, I just wanna know if I would be smart if I did that or not?

I would only buy a 2001 and under for an hd Chevy, and even then it would have to be practically free or eerily mint.
My buddy's got a 8.1 L crew cab and it pulls anything with ease, the only problem with it is the lights, gauges, ignition is finicky and 4wheel don't work, the tailgate never wants to open and the handles missing, the window switches are all broken and pushed into the door panels and the axel seals always seem to leak.... Oh yeah, and this guy has babied it since new. It's a 2004 crew cab.

But having only 1500 to pay off is not much. I'd keep the F150 myself. Better mileage and I wouldn't feel like a douche givving up a Ford for a chevy. Plus that's a lot of miles on a truck. I know the engine and tranny are fine, but everything else on it must be getting pretty rough. That's my 2cents.

Take the deal.
Here is what you do, take the Chevy, payoff your dad. Sell your truck for as much as possible. Take the profit and dont spend it. List the chevy for sale(it's worth more than $3500) Take that profit and dont spend it.
Buy a cheap car for college, pocket much more than est. $2500 you think you'll have.
If not I would take the Chevy for the reasons gas mileage wont be too much different, it's probably a crew or super cab since you're saying yours is only a single cab. (more cab room is nice!), no worry about continuing to owe your dad money since he'll be paid off and when you sell your truck you'll have extra money which is always nice to have.
One thing to look into is the insurance. It may bump your (or your dad's) policy up to a commercial policy which does cost more.
