The year of your truck, and the transmission you have. I personally can't help you, but there are plenty here that can.

Get a code reader. Possible it's locked in 4lo or the transfer case is not shifting properly?

As noted, you need a code reader before you can start moving forward on diagnosis. Beg, borrow or rent one. Check if a local parts store will loan you one. Most have a loan a tool program.

Well as of right now I haven't been able to get my hands on a scanner.. (long story). Needless to say, I hopped under the truck to see if something became unplugged. Nothing was... I disconnected the battery to see if that might help next. After reconnecting the battery I ran it and tried shifting through all the gears. Reverse still works, no drive gears work but I can switch between 2wd, 4 hi but going in or out of 4 lol makes a grinding clunk. I then checked the transducer fluid on the dipstick. It was still red and up to the right level however it definitely smelled burnt. I then got back into the truck and tried shifting through the gears again just for the hell of it. Suddenly a little wrench appeared on my instrument cluster and a trans fault popped up where my odometer is that is as far as I have gone so far. Needless to say it doesn't look good

No it isn't, everything melted out that night. Talked to a friend who owns local tranmission shop yesterday and he seems to think the transmission is toast. Luckily when I bought the truck I also bought the aftermarket warranty as well. It's already saved my *** twice and now it looks like I'm going to get a reman tranny. Only going to cost me a $100 deductible! Got it towed to the shop last night so I'll keep you posted
