Actually he clearly states any oil brand is good. But he says that full synthetic is the way to go for mpg, engine life and etc.

I use Mobile 1 full synthetic with a K and N oil filter. Its a little more expensive, but figure you can run more miles on it than conventional. I typically run about 5,000 between changes, and the oil looks just as clean as when i put it in.

Just remember that this engine its very sensitive to develop problems because of oil lubrication.... Change the oil filter everytime....

I always put 8 quarts of Motorcraft Semi-Synthetic 5w20 in my 5.4. I like it to be at the top of the marks on the dipstick.

Gents: Penzoil Platinum is an excellent oil. I'm a big user of Mobil 1 BUT for my 04 Lariat 5.4 3V It's MotorCraft 5-20 with MotorCraft filter. Really hard to beat that combination for the price. Many a 820S filter has been cut open on the BOB OIL site and they performe excellent. The MotorCraft 5-20 at about %60 synthetic has excellent numbers of additives.

Because our engine top ends are so sensitive I've chosen the above with mostly 4k oil change intervail and if towing a 3k change out...and as mentioned definetly wise to change the filter out every time. $4 at Wallmart so it's cheap.

I was using Mobil 1 5-20 and a Puralator 1 filter. Great combo but pretty costly. For the 4k oil change intervail I decided upon, just not worth the dollars.
