Thanks nrivwera, how was running the wiring and braided line to the gauge?

IBdashgaugenotconnectedtoanything.
The gauge is essentially a dummy gauge. As long as there is at least 7psi, the gauge will read in the middle. I think the sender is basically "go, no go," with the cut off at 7psi.

Yes the oil 'sender' is really a switch.

Does anyone know if you feed the gauge a signal from a normal sending unit if it will work, or does it only work with the factory switch go/no-go unit?

You must feed the aftermarket gauge with a signal from the correct sending unit. They are usually bought as a pair.

I think he meant replacing the sending unit, and feeding a new one to the guage.
I have no idea if that would work, but my gut says no.

I'd like for him to try it though.

I had read somewhere if you take a certain resistor out of your gauge cluster it will make you gauge function like an actual OP gauge. Problem is there's no numbers to give a reading.

On that, I also read that the computer uses it the way it is, so modifying it messes it up somehow. But I have seen folks add a second unit to get actual numbers

That's actually what I have done. The original purpose of the thread though was to see what numbers other people who have also installed aftermarket gauges were getting. We've skewed far from that obviously if you can't already tell.
