It's just an idiot light with a needle stuck to it!
I still wonder if you put one of the old school (70s-80's) can type sending units if it would at least show a variation in pressure.

my oil p=gauge stopped working consistently about 10,000 kms ago (now at 202,000).

most times it doesn't budge or show anything, then once in awhile it will randomly show just over half.

Dealer thought it was likely a dash cluster issue, and was likely not worth fixing (too costly)

On the Thunderbird super coupe page there is a write up about which sending unit to use and how to by-pass a resister on the oil pressure part of the gauge circuit board to make it a real gauge again. I found it in this forum AFTER I added a after market gauge
