oil pan remove 5.4l 3v 2wd 2005 lariat
Had to remove after suspected chain guide failure at 160k . Looked for pieces after engine flush with gunk . Found pieces so that set stage for timing gear change out . Engine was not all gunked up it had synthetic all its life . The bolts were 13 mm , the front four were hard to handle but I didn't want to risk steering damage by dropping that assembly . . I took the cross bar out and worked the front bolts with a small ratcheting wrench from harbor freight about 3 inches long .
The flush caused me to set cam timing codes , it was all ready acting up beforehand . I am going to replace lash adjusters and all cam phasors as well as install a new oil pump m360 ,chains etc .
When reinstalling pan gasket put gasket sealant at four places where the alum comes together with the steel block . It is a ridge there so its easy to see why .
Jasper outfit wants 7500 for rebuilt engine . I'm trying this 1100 dollar job first . This 5.4 engine is a pos. Worst engine I ever had no excuse ford . . I have repaired this thing too many times.Sparkplug breaking off, bad throttle body, injectors , cops going bad, vct failures . No more ford trucks . If you can't make a modern engine go 300k at this cost then you need to get out of the business .
Got timing set oemselect 798, 265 for cam rollers and lash adjusters .

Why don't you sell the "pos" and go buy a Dodge or Chevy?

If I could put a 5.3 gm motor in it I would . Have too much invested in truck ,I like most of the rest of the truck but the engine is just a bad design . At 70 I have had a lot of fords .Sometimes you just have to admit to being stuck with a bad lemon motor . I think ford could have done better at fixing this motor .redesign phasors etc.
