Default O2 sensor replacement help

I am in the process of having my O2 sensors replaced on my 07 Screw XLT (V8, 5.4L) with NTK parts (only part I could find around here for a decent price). A much-more-mechanically-inclined friend of mine is replacing them for me. He's replaced 3 of the 4 (2 on the driver's side, and one on the passenger side), but is having a hard time getting the one on the transmission out (his phrasing, not mine. I'm just a computer geek ). Does anyone have any tips/tricks they could pass along to help replace this last one for me?

Also, I've read (in this thread) that the battery should be disconnected before replacing the O2 sensors. I definitely know we did not do this. Should I disconnect/re-connect the battery now (or after the last sensor is replaced), or will my truck "re-learn" on is own?

As always, thank you in advance for your help.

Remove the down stream sensor and leave out. Then use a 7/8 open end wrench to break the front one loose. You may have to bend some of the heat shield to get your hand up there to un plug it.

Do you mean leave it out permanently? I honestly don't know why you (and a few others) say this. To me, if a part is there, it needs to be there. Replace it with better performing parts, sure...but to remove it altogether truly makes no sense to me (not being belligerent, just honestly don't understand).

Should I disconnect/re-connect the battery once they have all been replaced?

No you have replace it or install it after you replace the up stream sensor. It is easier to get your arm up between the tranny and fire wall without the down stream one installed.

Working on this O2 sensor right now, and its stuck pretty good. Hut it with rust breaker, using a breaker bar for leverage, nothing seems to be working. Short if dropping the exhaust, is there an easy way to get this sucker to move?

Not sure what to tell you. Get some PB Blaster or Kroil and let them soak for a little while.

Finally settled on hitting it with a hand-held torch. The heat seemed to loosen it right up. Finally got it out.
