Yes I have made my decision. I decided to have the whole transmission done for peace of mind and warranty purposes (After all is said and done I will have a 3 year, unlimited mile warranty on my transmission, and I typically drive at least 20k miles a year). I agree with you, I may have done just the flex plate if I intended to trade it in soon, but I plan to keep this truck for many years to come.

And for those babbling back and forth.....I do have the mechanical ability to unbolt a tranny and pull it back to check and replace a flex plate. However, I live in an apartment right now and I have neither the accomodations nor time to do this on my own at this point in my life. And since I am redoing the whole tranny the cost to just change the flex plate is now moot so drop it. What is important here, is that I did some research and called around a bit and, WHERE I LIVE, this seems to be about right, cost wise, to have this done. I'm a big boy, If I dont feel right about something I will take the proper actions. All I asked for is input on which route to take...not a bunch of "know it all" jibber jabber. I knew going into it I was dealing with a dealership and that their prices aren't exactly rock bottom....this isn't a news flash to most anyone who has a brain.

You can preach about overpaying til you turn blue, but the market controls the prices...We don't have the luxury to barter and negotiate for most things in life now days...And not everyone has the means or time to do it on their own.

Im sorry that comment came out as being directed towards you, that was not the case. I was talking about the two arguing and bickering back and forth, while trying to address everyone's comments all at once. The babbling comment was not directed toward you

Question ehh....

So Buck, did your tranny make any other noises before leading up to the flex plate failure? I don't get any metallic or whining sounds while at cruising speed, but when I am in 1st gear and I let off the accelerator, I hear my tranny or flex plate snap back. Kind of a tapping metallic sound, the best I can describe it is a metallic snapping back sound as the engine lets go of the tranny. Did you ever hear anything like that before your flex plate went by-by? Thanks.

My tranny also seems to want to tip-in to a lower gear or tip-out to O/D at 35 MPH for just a second, then goes back to the gear it is in. I can't quite tell what the tranny is trying to do as it doesn't actually change the gear, it just begins to tip in or out and then changes it mind. Did you have any of that either? I usually get this when accelerating from a dead stop up to a cruising speed. Anyone else get this?

Hey, the only sounds it made was a sort of high pitch metallic noise like your wheel bearing going bad would do or something like that. It also made a rattling noise that got louder each day, but this was only in the matter of about 3 days time before the flex plate went. They showed me my truck with the tranny out and I m pretty sure the metallic noise was the flex plate scraping on the rear main seal plate (which I also had to replace when this was done due to the damage that was done when the flex plate went out), and obviously the rattling noise was the flex plate beginning to malfunction and come apart. Other than that, there were no other weird things going on.
