Default Noisy Lifter

I have an 05 with a 5.4 Triton engine with about 74,000 miles. I am starting to get noticeable lifter noise from the right side of the engine. I have tried using an additive to the oil (slick 50) but so far that hasn't helped much. Is there anything I can do to reduce this noise without going into the engine, and if I do have to go into the engine how big and or expensive do you think this could be. Thanks for your time and attention.

Well just to get in the engine your going over 500 to open it up plus whatever needs done, atleast at most shops. Now are you sure its a lifter, a cracked manifold is common, they make more of a hiss than a tick, if its the tick it prob. is the lifters which are noisy on these trucks. Best thing to fix it up is add half a qt of auto tranny fluid to the oil and run a tank of high octane fuel. See if that cures it up

My 07 5.4 Has a tick on the drivers side and the dealer just put lifter and rockers arms in the whole left bank and it didnt fix crap. Thier explantation is that the engine is sludged up so that the lifters arent getting enough oil pressure. I think they are full of ****.

maybe cam phasers or manifold... is it loud at startup then gets quiet after 20-30 seconds? if so probably a manifold leak....

Injectors me thinks. It's been mentioned a lot on here. Unless it's a tapping sound.

It is likely the VCT. These things can tick like crazy and seems to be a common problem. There is also some injector ticks too. This too seems to be pretty common.

My 04 is noisy also. Idling it's not too bad, but as soon as I lightly step on the gas, it sounds like something opens and all this ticking starts. When I let off the gas it sounds like something closes and the ticking stops. Is that what you all are experiencing as well? If so, is this bad? I mean, is it going to get worse and worse until something really goes wrong?

It won't harm your engine but eventually it'll get worse. I've heard 150's that sounded almost exactly like they were diesels.
