Default Newb question about tire and rim size......

So I was looking at getting tires and rims after I get my truck leveled and had a question. I tried searching for my answer but my search fu is weak. My question is...... Does rim size give you any more or less ground clearance so loang as the tire size stays the same? For instance, If I get 17 inch wheels with 33x12.50 tires is their less ground clearance than a 18 inch wheel with the same 33x12.50 tires? Or does it stay the same and I will just have more tire sidewall with the 17 than with the 18? Also are there any advantages to going with a 17 instead of an 18 or 20, other than cost (I.E. performance, gearing, towing, etc)? Thanks for any and all replies/help.

17's do usually cost less then 18 and 20 inch tires. The taller you go then the stock 31 or 32 inch tall tires you will lose some performance. I'm running the 17 inch wheels with 295x70x17 tires that are 33-1/2 inches tall and find they are a great size on a leveled 4x4. I ran 35's for 4 yrs. but had too much performance loss when towing. More sidewall on a 17 then a 18 or 20 tire also. Saves your wheels if you go offroad.

Did you read the sticky at the top of this forum labeled "Tire and Wheel fitment guide for 04 to 08"?

It should have appeared in your search.

LMAO! YEAH, YEAH..... I know it was a stupid question and I kinda figured that it was all the same just more sidewall with the smaller wheels.

PawPaw nice truck, what size level is that 2 or 2.5? I am considering going with a 2.5 on my 07 fx4 screw but don't want it to be higher in the front if I do.

I have a 2 1/2" Daystar poly kit that's been in almost 5 yrs. with no problem's. The 04's sat so high in the rear I needed the 2 1/2 inch kit. You could get by with a 2 inch kit.
