How would 3.73 gears and a limited slip affect my gas mileage? Different things to different types of driving?

What gears do you have now? 3.31 or 3.55?

If you have 3.31, then your highway MPG will suffer, but your city MPG will probably increase (or at least stay the same).

If you have 3.55, then you might see a small decrease in highway and probably no change in city.

The LS shouldn't affect either one.

I just watched that Mythbusters youtube vid posted on page 1.

Does anyone think that them getting 10.57 MPG @ 55mph is extremely ****ty for a stubby Dodge that is empty?

They got a little over 11mpg's with the mesh, however in my truck that is completely stock and with a load of 3 people in the cab, I got 19.8mpg on a drive from Fairbanks down to Palmer on the Richardson Hwy basically cruise-controlled at 55 mph. I figure about 18.2-5 mpg when cruise controlled at 65mph.

I have the 3.55 gears. Am going from 235/70/17 to 275/70/18.

As for the mythbusters testing, sometimes they're results seem a little suspect. Great tv though.

Sh***y gas here in Cali huh??? Other than the winter blend I am confused on that. The fact that the industry is so heavily regulated that myth went out the door 30+ years ago. Remember where you live, we have more attorneys here than illegal aliens, if there was a provable bad gas distributor, someone would have proven it and sued the **** out of the bad refiners/stations. By paying $.10 more per gallon for the 89 octane you are not really helping the truck just the gas station/refiner... Your truck says to run 87, unless you have a tune or a supercharger anything else is a waste of your money.

I agree on running good ole 87. People forget that the lower the Octane, the more volatile the fuel. Meaning, it's got more tendency to ignite.... I guess in a way you can say that higher octane fuels are "watered down". The only benefit to higher octane fuels is you can alter the valve timing, also the ignition timing, and also the compression. Certain tunes WILL make more HP but for a daily driver, you don't want a high-strung motor. Plus, 87 is the cheapest.... why not? LOL.... I'm thinking the only thing you can get out of higher octane with custom tunes is advance ignition.... but that'll cost you money in higher gas prices. Nothing wrong with 87 in my opinion.

all I count on is that I've tracked the mpg with multiple vehicles (using odo and math, not computers) and have noticed an increase. I attribute it to sh*tty gas. It could be a number of things. It seems strange when 87 is twenty or more cents cheaper than 89. Whatever it is, it won't matter when I get my programmer.

Again, anybody notice a difference with mpg after camper shell install?

It can also be a mental thing since the right foot is controlled by the same brain that is wanting to see an increase in the MPG to justify the extra cost of the 89 octane.

Having the 3.73 makes a big difference. I have 4.10s and my dad has 3.73s. He averages 3-4mpg highway better than I do...

But what is the difference between 3.55 and 3.73? city vs. highway?
