Default New Truck!

Hi Everyone,

Just bought a 2008 F150 Lariat CC. It has the 5.4 with a 3.73 limited slip. The only thing I have done is add some Weathertech floor mats in the front. Even though my truck has a build date of 1/08 are there any problems I should look out for. I believe with having a newer 11th gen I dodged the spark plug and phaser problems. Also was wondering what mufflers you guys are running on your trucks she's way too quiet for me especially since my 97 is straight piped lol.

Here's a pic

First off very nice truck and congrats! The bad news is the phaser problems continued till 2010 with the 5.4 3V, they got better but not completely fixed. Spark plugs I believe were changed to 1 piece by then though. Like any vehicle these trucks run great with regular oil changes and maintenance. Enjoy your new truck. And as far as a muffler I'd be looking for Magnaflow with an 18" body for good sound but still pretty quiet.

That's a beautiful truck you have there. I went with the MBRP XP series exhaust, and love it. I've had quite a few different exhausts on trucks, but I'll be sticking with these guys from now on.

Thanks guys I'm loving it. It's in great shape and only has 25000 miles. I will definitely look into those mufflers. After reading a little more I see the phasers are still prone to go bad. Would switching to synthetic oil be a good idea? I have never ran full synthetic in any of my vehicles just motor craft synthetic blend. If switching is a good idea what brand oil do you guys run I assume a motorcraft filter would still be okay? Thanks for the replies and any further info. My other truck has a 4.6 2v in it so this truck is all new to me.

Yes, you are supposed to run synthetic, and always use a motorcraft filter.

Okay guys I have some ?'s. Tonight when I got home from work I backed into my driveway and when I put it in park the truck was kinda loud. When I got out I went and listened to the exhaust and unfortunately it seems my truck has a faint diesel sound to it. I have read about noisey injectors but would they actually cause the truck to sound like this? Also if the dealer I bought the truck from did not use synthetic oil would that cause this? At 25k I would be really disappointed if my motor had to be opened up.

Now if it turns out the phasers or something internal is wrong are there any aftermarket parts that are stronger and or better that would make this problem not come back? I have read into some of the stickies on this but their kinda all over and hard to follow and seem to be more for the 04-06 trucks.

I'm gonna change the oil just to rule that out with 5w20 synthetic.

Sorry for the long post just not sure what the noise is.

Thanks Zach

If you dont want the issue to come back, get phaser lock-outs. When you do that, you have to get a tune for the pcm to adjust for it.

This is for if you can use your existing phasers:

This comes with new phasers:

Also it will be really hard to give muffler advice. I have some el-cheapos flowmaster knock offs from the previous owner and they sound great. I will be going Borla though when I upgrade.

You have a great looking truck there! We love pics around here, so post up more of that beauty!

Thank you so much for the links that's what I was looking for. I will post some more pictures I have yet to take some good photos but will definitely update the thread with some. I'm taking the truck over to my mechanic this week sometime to have him look at and diagnose the noise. I'm new to this motor but will definitely post my findings and update this thread. Thanks for the help!

I have a Borla pro xs muffler on my truck and love the way it sounds. It's throaty at idle, no drone on the highway, and really growls when you step on it
